Atracciones principales

(*)Check out Museo Larco Herrera, with an excellent overview of 3000 years of pre-Colombian history, surrounded by beautiful gardens, and especially popular for its ample collection of erotic pottery from the Mochica culture.
(*)Even if churches aren?t your thing, check out La Iglesia de San Francisco for the underground catacombs featuring hundreds of real human skeletons arranged in artistic patterns.

(*)Try Lima's beaches, a paradise for surfers but not recommended for sunbathing or swimming due to poor water quality and thieves.
(*)Visit the "Polvos Azules" market near central Lima to buy cheap bootleg clothes, CD's and DVD's, shoes, backpack's, and perfumes. The brands are fake, but the quality is pretty good nonetheless.

(*)Don?t miss out on trying Inka Kola, the most popular drink in Peru and the only soda that Coca Cola couldn?t defeat in the world ? until they bought them.

Cuándo ir

Lima is mild year round, though it can get quite humid. Temperatures never reach extremes in either direction. Damp and cool winters last from June to October, with sunny and relatively dry summers from December to April. Rainfall is nearly unknown. In all, Lima is an excellent spot to vacation at any time of year, as the weather is almost always hospitable to being outside and enjoying the town.

Cómo llegar

(bus) If you?re traveling from your home country, you?ll probably fly into Lima?s Jorge Chavez International Airport as your first stop in Peru. If you are traveling to Lima from within the country, you can catch inexpensive buses from all major destinations. The cheapest buses let you off in La Victoria, not the best neighborhood, so be careful.

Información sobre Visas

Travelers from the USA, Europe, and Israel, do not need a visa to enter Peru. Some Asian countries do need visas, so check online before planning your trip.

Propinas

Most restaurants and bars in Peru add a 10% gratuity onto the bill. If the service has been good it is customary to add an additional 10%. Taxis are not tipped, and meters are rare, so make sure to negotiate a fare prior to getting into the cab. Hotel porters expect a tip of $1 per bag.
