Beyond the cost, its more social. You meet ppolee you wouldn't meet otherwise. So it depends on what kind of experience you want. Also, say a hostel in a city costs €20 and the cheapest hotel costs €25. The hostel might very well be nicer, because that's on the higher end of what a hostel costs (depending of course on where you are) versus a very cheap price for a hotel. The hostel might be cleaner, have a freindlier staff and be more pleasant than a hotel that costs so little. Also, private rooms in hostels are like having the privacy of a hotel but without the cost, if you don't want anything incredibly special but just want a place to lay your head at night and spend a little downtime. In hotels, you often pay for lots of services (gym, concierge, pretty lobby, swimming pool) that you may or may not need or want.

In September-November you should not need to book your htesols apart from when there are festivals in town.Traveling around I would normally either book by internet about 3 days before arriving, phone in the night before arriving or in the morning.If I expect to arrive in town in the morning, I sometimes just walk in and see what I can get.Some people will never make reservations, just walk in a hostel at nightfall and see whether there is space. In the period you plan to travel you can do that, some people even do it in summer,If you are happy with dorm beds, and not fuzzy about the size of the dorms, you will not need to book ahead if you arrive 5 PM latest, if you expect to walk in later, a phone call will be very useful.By booking everything you would make traveling much harder, as you will also need to make all your train reservations ahead of time, to make sure you will be in the town when you have your booking, and that would take all flexibility out of your journey.

Hi guysI totally agree with you. First of all, I think to stay in a hotesl is for a short term only. But even if it’s cheaper, flat-shares are definitely more comfortable and definitely safer. When I spent 3 days in a hotesl in London, I just had to sleep in the same room of 20 people of my summer camp and it was quit difficult at the beginning but I can't tell really something about responsibilities. It was just strange because some people like me was tired and wanted to sleep however the other one didn't. So I think it's quit difficult to share the bed room with to many people and not only because of the hour but also because of the noise Now I live in a flat-share since May, always in London but with 10 people from all the world. Actually I think to go in a flat-share is better because you can have your personal room, so you can such have more intimate and during the evening you can sleep in your room without to be disturb by the other people.Personally I like living in a flat-share because I have improved my English very fast and the people I have met here are really amazing. All of them are more than my family. I recommend a flat-share for students because it’s really more calm and so more easily to study than a hotesl.Dave

4 nights is peltny. i didnt stay at a hotel, but i heard that there was one on placa mayor that is reasonably cheap and good but i didnt hear the name nor the actual rate. i stayed in gothic point youth hostel and would recommend it very highly, its location is good, and you get your own quasi room. gothicpoint.com
